a gift that will inspire a year.
Taking Care of Business, will become a motto, inspiring daily routines of continuing the (ideally forward) movement of all things life. Risk, chance +challenge, are opportunities for vulnerability + open one to the largest rewards, personal + otherwise. Three cheers for T.C.B.

struck it rich
fabricating + designing hats was the first avenue explored + committed to as a designer. several teachers shared techniques of hat construction, laying the foundation, supporting interpretation + manipulation, of the materials + process, resulting in a voice, unique to myself.
my last mentor, Raymond Panice, is as legit as they come. making hats in Chicago for over 60 years, his tricks of the trade are unrivaled. I was fortunate to work with him, for over a year and a half, learning what it takes to make a proper hat + when he wasnt looking, how to alter + “update” that proper hat.
our friendship + respect flourished, continuing to thrive, even after the recent closing of his shops doors. on several of my visits he gifted me small pieces of equipment, irons, a rounding jack, a trimmer, most that had been edited by Raymond for me. this trip to Chicago I paid homage, to the hats that defined several years of my life. blocks collected, tools acquired + hats designed will physically represent, but never capture loves of my life.
thoughtfulness manifested
original art, a favorite gift. honored to receive this illustrated thought bubble, capturing elements of fleeting conversation + surroundings. by, an unparalleled, Matt Milkowski
these are a few of my favorite things…
slowly acquired, these accessories supply a window into a world of materials + lifestyles that inspire a continually developing aesthetic.

lasting nostalgia
The Shedd Aquarium, built for the 1933 Worlds Fair, represents one of several decadent buildings defining the Museum Campus. Constructed to last, lux + clever details coat the exterior, interior + accessories, striking awe + wonderment in young + old.
Marshall Fields (now Macys) showcases some of Chicagos historic architecture. Annual holiday window decorations + a hearty meal at the Walnut Room, is an absolute in rounding out the holiday experience w/ classic sophistication.

winter peaks
the beginning of pizzelle dough: sifted dry ingredients organically pile into sculptural mounds.
p.a.c. pizzelle
more then a cookie, the smell of these individually made anise flavored pizzelles is a winter tradition in this Chicago home for over 30 years, 30 winters, 30 Christmas’. the iron is heavy, charred + worn from loving use.
a tablespoon of dough is loaded in the iron, closed and set to bake for 30 seconds on each of the 2 sides, then with talent + practice, its flipped onto the enameled top of our 1950s stove. over the course of the years, perfectly sized rectangular tins have been acquired + now are recognized by all families that receive them, known to contain these labor intensive + prized cookies.
a couple cheers on the front, wreath on the back, these pizzelles are seasonal, the tradition lasting + the scent memory is forever.
simple + smart
there is a simple joy when perfect patterns surface in things of random order.
